On Friday 27th November History, group members past and present, gathered together to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the History Group. It was 25 years ago this year that the group started up, meeting first in a members house and moving on to the basement of the Council Offices on the High Street in Queensferry. Sadly one member who could not attend was a much loved founder member, Jimmie Boner who passed away on 18th November. Jimmie was full of local knowledge and stories. He was also an avid collector of postcards which helped immensely to build a picture of 'Old Queensferry'. hover cursor over images to read caption. Sunday 8th November saw the Annual Remembrance Service in South Queensferry. The uniformed organisations, local groups and dignitaries marched along the High Street to Rosebery Hall, and the wreath bearers lined up in front. The service was led by Rev David Cameron from Queensferry Parish Church with support from Father Tony MacDonald of St. Margaret's Church and Rev Terry Harkin of the Priory Church. The names of Queensferry's first losses, five men, who perished during 1914, were emotionally read out by Father Tony, giving a poignancy to the ceremony. Queensferry's History Group have been researching the stories behind the names on the War Memorial and were proud to be in the position to give this information, to honour the first lives lost from Queensferry. 19 wreaths were laid at the Memorial and on the steps, with great ceremony, and those present could not fail to feel some emotion on the day, whether remembering their own lost relatives or thinking of the men and one lady, whose names are on the Memorial, for both wars.
